When did comedy start having protagonists that are "horrible people"?

Or has this always been a thing and I'm only noticing it now?

Some examples: Archer, It's always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Office, Bojack Horseman, George from Seinfeld

Comedic anti-heroes have a long history, indeed. Consider Clark Gable's Peter in "It Happened One Night", Petruchio in Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew", or Mnesilochos in the ancient Greek comedy "Thesmophoriazousai". Mnesilochos dresses up as a woman and tries to steal a baby, only to find out it was a wineskin wrapped in swaddling clothes. It is sort of an ancient Greek "Raising Arizona".
