Why did the Nazi party force scientists to reject the nobel prize?

by Duskmon

Of the few people who've rejected the Nobel prize. For example were brilliant chemists from the 1900's such as Richard Kuhn and Adolf Butenandt that rejected the prize due to involvement with the Nazi party. Not to mention Domagk who miraculously cured his own daughter with protonsil, again winning the prize but forced to refuse it and arrested by the Gestapo.

Why did the Nazi party not want german scientists to receive recognition?

Both the Germans and the Soviets (and, today, the Chinese) had issues with Nobel Prizes because they could be given to people who opposed their regimes (i.e., dissidents), and conferred national and international attention on people they didn't like (e.g., for the Germans, Einstein). In the case of the Germans, after the Peace Prize was given to pacifist and whistleblower Carl von Ossietzky (the 1935 prize, given in 1936), who had exposed that the Germans were re-arming in spite of the Treaty of Versailles. Hitler announced in early 1937 that from that point forward, they would not allow Germans to accept Nobel Prizes, and would instead create a German state prize. The Soviets for their part had their own internal prize system (Lenin Prize, etc.) that was meant to mimic the Nobel Prize but not create uncomfortable political problems (on this, see also the case of Boris Pasternak, who was forced to decline the prize).
