I came across this picture while reading about the Boxer Rebellion on Wikipedia. Link to article.
Is this some sort of cage for hanging people or beheading them or something? Is it just to imprison them? One guy looks very much alive while some of the others are presumably dead.
Torture and execution device. The person in the gibbet could not reach their mouth with their hands. This ment they would have to rely on friends and family to feed them while they where publicly humiliated for their crimes. Their name, address, and Crime would have been written on their cage. After death they would be left on display as a means to scare others
