Were Europeans and Persians/Indians aware that their languages were related?

by Akkadi_Namsaru

Are there any Greek writings for example, mentioning similarities between the Greek and Persian languages? Was there any documented awareness of Indo-European languages being related in Pre-modern history?

Bonus question: Do any exist for other language families?

An example of a Parsi 'recognition' of the Indo-Iranian monophyly(in obviously a crude sense) would have been the dastur Nairyosangha Dhuval/Dhaval(flourished in the early 1200s). He transliterated and translated the Avesta into Sanskrit.
