India was simply too far way to be involved in European politic. But the trade route between India and Europe continued through out the Middle Age, by either the land route (the Silk Road) or the sea route through Red Sea to Egypt, then to the Mediterranean. Both of those were only cut off in the 1400s by the Ottoman. That's why Columbus went on his 1492 expedition - to find another route to India.
