Urban Warfare in WWI

by Cybermat47

Okay, so I saw a post asking about WWI urban warfare, but the answer only covered the Western Front.

Did urban warfare occur on the Italian Front, Eastern Front, Balkan Front, Chinese Front, or Ottoman Front?

The Italian Front was mountain warfare, the front stretching from the very tippy of Southeastern Switzerland to just the Northern top of Istria, that little tear drop shape piece of mass in Northwest Croatia.

Villages were destroyed, absolutely, but mainly (and unfortunately for both the Italians and Austrians) the big fights stayed in the mountains.

These poors guys had it rough, fighting in snowy ass Italian Alps, just entrenched as any other front of the war.

All fronts saw some amount of urban warfare, but none saw it in such a large scale as on the Western Front.

Specific examples of battles fought AROUND urban areas: The Battle of Tsingtao, which was a siege against the German Forces by Japanese and British forces.

In the Balkans you had the Battle of Cer, which was the first Allied victory of the war, neatly enough. However, that, too, was mountainous warfare, but the unlucky villages and towns in the area suffered some pretty nasty damage.

In the Ottoman front, places like Baghdad and Damascus saw sieges.

No doubt about it, all fronts saw violence in urban areas, but the highest concentration of urban fighting had been focused on the Western and Eastern Fronts.
