Total rookie at American history asking.
Read a bit about the Kincaid Mounds State where saw a picture of a village with cabins. Previously, I was under the impression that all native Americans used tents before the settlers came.
I'm asking primarily about the North East America during the Archaic Period.
what you might have seen where what are called either big houses or long houses. these houses would be used mostly on the pacific northwest. these house are in essence large plank houses. the planks could be taken down to move from the different villages. for example people would move back and forth from summer and winter villages for different reasons. as i was told a big house could hold around 60 people, usually around 4 family's making up 15 people each. when you say tents i'm assuming you mean tepee's and i'm not too informed about those.
