Did the American Mafia have more of a positive impact on working and middle class Americans?

Weber little positive impact that they have brought and has been notified by the greater negative impact that they've used regarding illegal drugs like heroin and crack. Working population is the main target audience for these drugs.

I would say a more negative impact than positive. Established business owners are less likely to take their money to areas known to have organized crime or corruption. While the working class may have seen some small benefits in what the mafia bought, they likely lost out on job opportunities or additional money flowing into their communities.

On the other side there were some small benefits. Economist Thomas Sowell has a chapter in one of his books about a time where he was living in the same neighborhood as members of the mob. Sowell said he was able to purchase a paper at the news stand in the middle of the night while news stands in other neighborhoods would never be open at that hour. There would also be old ladies walking their dogs alone after dark. The small timer muggers and robbers would leave his neighborhood alone. Robbing an old lady of a purse isn't worth the risk if that old lady's grandson happens to be a mobster.
