Warsaw, 1945: What was life like?

by MaxN24

'Nuff said—what was Warsaw in January 1945 like? What were the conditions of the ghettos?

By 1945, there were no ghettos left in Warsaw. The Jews of the city, and those who had been concentrated there over the course of the war, had been killed at least a year and a half earlier, if not more. The final clearing of the ghetto came in May 1943. Overall, the city was in ruins after it had been razed by the German army, in response to a Polish Home Army uprising in 1944. I'm sure there are others with a deeper knowledge of the fallout following that uprising, and the impact it had on life in the city.
