Religion in Medieval Age

by ismailkoca

Hi everyone, I have a mini-presentation about religion in Medieval Age. I am from Turkey and my english teacher gave me that presentation topic. Unfortunatelly I only know that life was dominated by church in those times. She said I should focus on religious class, why they were so important, monasteries, monks and their lives. She said they were the only ones who read and write so I should talk about their power. Sorry for my bad english and thanks.

Hello there. Because your question is related to school work, we just want to remind you, and any potential respondents, that our rules DO permit people to ask for help with their homework, so long as they are seeking clarification or resources, rather than the answer itself. This policy is further explained in this META Thread.

Additionally, while our users may be able to help you out here, we hope that you also will take the time to check out our six-part series, "Finding and Understanding Sources", which should hopefully prove to be helpful for you as you continue in your research.

Mmm, this is a bit of a tricky one. Firstly, what level is this aimed at? Are you in secondary level education or at university? I presume you're looking for English-language resources if the project is from an English class? Is the emphasis/grading more on your presentation and use of English, or on the facts and the history themselves? Do you have access to an academic library, or are you relying more on the internet/easily accessible resources?

I'll hopefully be able to give you a more detailed answer later if you give a little more information on your project, but for the moment I'll recommend you two 'classics' which I would see as introductory level for university students: R.W. Southern's Western Society and the Church in the Middle Ages and Colin Morris' The Papal Monarchy. Both are accessible and pretty straightforward intros to the basics.
