Sorry if this is not OK for the sub, I checked the FAQ and couldn't find anything directly against this type of question.
Being Irish myself, I understand that a lot of the Irish records were destroyed during the War of Independence and Civil War.
The British system is much more complete and allows for easier research.
My preliminary research has been very difficult to uncover much beyond 3 generations of my own family.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If I were doing this, I would contact my local priest. The Catholic church keeps very good records and he would, hopefully, be able to point you in the right direction. If you know the local parishes in Ireland you're trying to research, you might start there. Also, check r/genealogy, as they'll no doubt have good insights!
This is definitely a question for r/genealogy .
As you've discovered, Irish records are a lot sparser than English records for a number of reasons, and it's often impossible to get further back than 1840 when mandatory reporting of births was introduced - but you may get lucky with parish records.
I've got ancestors who immigrated from Ireland in the mid 1800s, but I gave up when confronted with the paucity of records and the ubiquity of names. More records have been put online recently which is encouraging.
r/genealogy is a very active group filled with very helpful and experienced genealogy. If you give them the details you have of the people you are looking for they will give helpful suggestion of where to search, and even do some searching for you.
