Who said this quote from the Cold War?

by NotThomasBaker

Howdy, I remember someone telling me about a quote from the Cold War. The quote is: "If we get blown back to Adam and Eve, I want them to be speaking English." Of course, this quote is most likely paraphrased, so I'm wondering who said a quote like this one and what the correct quote is.

Edit: a book has the exchange.

I think it is a mutated version of this exchange, quoted from [Fred Kaplan, The Wizards of Armageddon, (Stanford: Stanford University Press, 1991), p 246](https://books.google.com/books?id=LqF0BgAAQBAJ&pg=PA246&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi49tr7sOHQAhXJzVQKHdS7D9gQ6AEIHDAA#v=onepage]. General Thomas S.] Power, commanding Strategic Air Command, was receiving a briefing from William Kaufmann and suddenly went into a rant several minutes long:

"Restraint! Why are you so concerned with saving their lives? The whole idea is to kill the bastards! ... Look. At the end of the war if there are two Americans and one Russian left alive, we win!" Kaufmann -- his patience exhausted -- snapped back, "Well, you'd better make sure that they're a man and a woman."
