I watch wrestling off and on, and in one segment it was mentioned that "pro wrestling has been around for a long time. In fact, President Lincoln was a professional wrestler at one point!" Is there any documentation or proof of this, and is it the same kind of pro wrestling that we have today, with predetermined finishes and moves designed to not be damaging? Or was it more like Olympic wrestling?
This question comes up from time to time. You might want to read this answer from /u/nilhaus and this one from /u/rsh412. I wish both had used more citations, but they're spot-on.
Also, since I'm never shy about promoting my own work, I once wrote about Lincoln's career as a cockfighting referee.
