All the evidence suggests that if Germany had invaded Briton, ordinary folk would take up arms and put up a long fierce fight (e.g dad's army, or Churchill indicating that "there may be no need to die after all" after America joined the war). So why was this not the case in France. Why was defeat accepted to readily?
This question has been asked before so I will give the link here: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistory/comments/37m2a7/why_did_france_surrender_so_quickly_to_germany_in/
And to add a bit from myself, the First World War devastated France so I'm sure that also had a part with it, perhaps not wanting a repeat of last time. Britain never experienced invasion in either wars, Dad's Army never got a chance to see action so we will never know what we would do in the actual event. Churchill's leadership is what got us through the war, as a flawed as a person he was. Anyone less patriotic and more sane probably wouldn't have got us so far, and I guess France just didn't have a Churchill of their own. Also, lets not forget there were plenty of French citizens fighting against the Germans throughout the war in the form of the French Resistance, including women such as Simone Segouin.
