I was just wondering when sex became "civilized" in the sense of being the opposite of animalistic. Obviously different animals have different mating rituals, but is there a comparison?
Though not always taken as a serious crime, rape has been known for a long time, so when did consent become a thing?

Sources from the paleolithic and earlier are generally very rare and limited in scope (ie nothing written, and some rare cave drawings). In essence that leaves us inferring what early humans did based off of their mechanical ability, and by examining what the practices are among people who have been isolated from our current behaviors. Essentially, you're not going to find anything near definitive, just scientific guesses based on avilable research.
