What did Byzantine cuisine consist of? Did they have any particular methods or tools for preparing food?

Often when discussing the diets of people in the past, the focus is on the 'raw' foods themselves (i.e. grains, fish, certain vegetables, etc). Not much attention is given to actual preparation or particular styles of cooking. While this would be influenced by what was available, cuisines can vary greatly between different civilisations.

So how would the Rhomaion have prepared their meals? Was there a particular 'style'?
