Is there any truth to this P-40 ghost plane story?

This individual link just SCREAMS fake clickbait. But also for months after the start of the war there was borderline hysteria on much of the West coast, expecting some sort of phantom attack at any moment. This in part culminated in February 1942 in LA when air defense forces finally snapped and spent much of the night firing wildly into the air at nothing. In part because they assumed the Japanese were massing just off shore since an I-Boat had lobbed a few shells at an oil field down the coast just before.

If you have ever seen the movie 1941 this is what it depicts. As for just a random missing P-40 that might have gotten air borne and gone missing during the attack on pearl it is incredibly farfetched. Those pilots who managed to take off were one of the few bright spots of the day and made heroes off to boost morale. LT's Welch and Taylor both were awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for instance. While the total that did get air borne is generally consensus counted as 8.

While the distances quoted are also a load of horse shit. The distance from Mindanao in the Philippines to even just Hawaii is over 5,000 nmi, well beyond the range of any small fighter, while it would have been unable to even island hop if it had friendly bases, the last major leg to Hawaii being particularly long. Even Port Moresby on New Guinea is about 2,000 miles, while the Allied bastion of Darwin in Northern Australia is about 1,300. Both of which are of course not in the US as this "article" claims the incident to have taken place.
