Historians: where would you look to find pictures of a specific soldier in the Korean War?

by jsk_2tech

My grandfather was in the Korean War and has mentioned that he would like a picture of himself in his uniform. I've been trying to find one, but so far I haven't had any luck. Where would you go if you were looking for something like this? I thought about signing up for Ancestry.com to find one, but they require a credit card # even for their "free trial" which I thought sounded a little sketchy. Please let me know what you think!

Check out the national archives to get your grandfather's service record. With that, you can start searching with specific information - unit, tour dates, battles, etc. You could then search through DOD and the National Archives for photos of said units and battles. You could also use this information to search for other veterans or their friends/family that might have what you're looking for. Lots of units got together after the war for reunions and such and many of these groups might have an official historian or other record keeper that has photos.

Good luck!
