My father and I were going through a lot of photos of the past and we came across an original and old photo of my great great great grandfather, might be missing a couple greats... All I can tell is that it had to be around the civil war era. Any info on his uniform would be great. I doubt there's any info out there on him specifically...
I'm having a hard time recognizing this as a uniform from the American Civil War. My guess, given the style this is a post war image. Not saying that the rank and medals weren't awarded in the Civil War.
To be honest, I'm not entirely sure he's wearing a uniform. It looks to me like he's wearing a dress coat, his rank and medals and a hat with insignia. Most images of ACW Officer uniforms have a similar look to them, and this is far different from those.
u/Dux_Gregis is right on the rank, an empty shoulder board is 2nd Lt. That much I can guarantee.

You guys are awesome! I will get more information on him tomorrow or by the end of the week! The photo and info is at my parent's house. Thank you guys!
