Found this statuette in a tide pool near Bolinas (just north of San Francisco) years ago. It weighs about 5 pounds, had not rusted despite sitting in salt water for a presumably long time, and was encrusted with lichen (still visible). It looks like it was cast in a mold that split in two, because the side of the arms and body seems to have been sanded or filed smooth. Always wondered what this thing was and where/when it came from. My guess is some kind of shipwreck, given the location (rocky coast between Point Reyes and the Golden Gate). I'd appreciate any info or theories anyone has!
/r/whatisthisthing might be the place to go for this.
