I understand that during the later part of the war he wasn't a very good military strategists, but what about earlier in the war? I've found multiple sources that claimed that he was always a bad strategist while I've found just as many that have said that, at least in the earlier part of the war, he was a good military strategist. What's the truth? Thanks.
He had no formal education or experience necessary for high level command so it is very unlikely he would have made a competent general let alone an exceptional general.
Of course no human can be a master of all trades, a head of state must rely on others to help them make decisions. A good head of state must create an environment allowing for discussion and scrutiny so that any concerns can be raised and addressed, the head of state can then encourage ministers and generals to resolve differences or narrow things down to a specific problem that can be focused on to arrive at a sound decision. In this way they can help the team even if they are not 100% on all the technical details.
Hitler failed this in many respects, personally interfering in military decisions he was wholly unqualified to make and allowing Goebbels and Goering to divide into different camps contributing to frictions, blunders and administrative inefficiency. Notably he allowed a quack doctor Theodor Gilbert Morell into his inner circle to drug him with amphetamines passed off as vitamin pills which demonstrates severe incompetence.
