Apologies if I am posting in the wrong sub; if so please point me in the right direction! Also, apologies if this has been asked before; it's 6 am and I haven't slept yet, so my searching skills are a bit stagnant right now.
All research I've done on line has come to a dead end, so I was hoping to pick your brains and see if anyone has some verifiable answers to this. This began as a simple question in my head, and turned into something more that is like to drive me crazy eventually. For once the internet has let me down and didn't have the info I needed!
I suppose the same goes for the word "Mom", so any info on that would be the icing on the cake!
Thank you in advance
You might also consider /r/Linguistics. As is apparently the case with the term "mom", the word "dad" may be more of a linguistic question than an etymological one in that the root may be in a fundamental of language (things that babies easily voice). Where etymology is a means to trace a word and its transformations backwards, linguistics can offer some thought to how some words well up out of the human circumstance.
If you don't get an answer here - and you might - you could try r/etymology.
