Persons with hereditary disabilities and diseases were subject to sterilisation and later euthanasia under Nazi eugenics polices. Were military veterans who, due to war injuries, had become severely disabled subject to these policies?
Sterilization under the Nazi law (which is entirely separate from the Aktion T4 program, and applied to the general population) was only applied to what were believed to be hereditary diseases. Specifically:
(1) Congential Mental Deficiency,
(2) Schizophrenia,
(3) Manic-Depressive Insanity,
(4) Hereditary Epilepsy,
(5) Hereditary Chorea (Huntington's),
(6) Hereditary Blindness,
(7) Hereditary Deafness,
(8) Any severe hereditary deformity.
And "any person suffering from severe alcoholism may also be rendered incapable of procreation."
Injuries sustained in war would not fall under this. This does not mean that a war veteran was exempt from sterilization for other matters; there is nothing in the law that exempts veterans specifically.
