Hello all,
I'm currently writing a short story set in the Warsaw District of Poland in 1942 and was just a little unsure on this legal grey area- if a non-Jew was aiding a fugitive Jew by hiding them in their home, but then betrayed that Jew by handing them over to the Nazis, would they have been rewarded for coming forward or killed for harbouring them in the first place? Did the Nazis offer any special rewards or incentives for people like this? Thank you!
I'm not quite sure, but my guess would be that the traitor would claim to the authorities that the Jew asked for help and they immediately refused and contacted the nazis, rather than telling the SS that they had been harboring them for x amount of time and had a chance of heart. The Nazis would be unlikely to believe the Jew when he/she called the traitor out on the lie.
