Have traces of them been found*
Yes! There's actually a site in Newfoundland, Canada called L'anse aux Meadows where the remains and structures of a Norse settlement have been found. The site has been dated through examinations of the sites structures and artifacts to approximately 990-1050 CE. Although no other archeological sites that have been confirmed, there is evidence to suggest that there were more than just this site but other small, continental settlements that were similar. However, there is no current evidence to suggest more substantial, enduring Norse settlements on the continental mainland of North America.
