We know that the Icelandic community visited the Americas almost 500 years before Columbus. So why didn't they bring diseases that wiped out the native populations they way Columbus did. Or is there evidence that they brought disease to the native populations?
Hi there, while you wait for a newer answer, you may also be interested in these threads on the Norse and disease that are in our FAQ.
Having read through the relevant sagas, I cannot find any references to anyone being sick in the New World. There is a mention of a sótt (sickness) going around Greenland the year before the trip, killing many of those who intended to take the trip to Vínland. Whether the Natives caught any diseases off of the Icelanders is not mentioned, so I'll leave that up to others.
