I'm curious about the actual, objective timing of the birth and death of Jesus. I read an article that placed his birth on June 7 of the year 0 AD and his death in mid April 30 AD. Those dates were specific enough that it seemed likely that there must have been a basis for them.
My actual questions are do we have generally accepted dates for the birth and death of Jesus, and how confident in their accuracy are historical scholars?
I don't know very much about the historiography of the dating of Christ's birth, but I'd be very skeptical of any such article. Partly because, from what little I know, Christ's life is not known exactly enough to say such things, but mostly because if any article thinks that there's a year 0 AD it shouldn't be considered trustworthy.
As Xenophon said, there is no year 0 (dating goes straight from 1 BCE to 1 CE), and estimates for Jesus's birth range all the way from 4 BCE to 7 CE, with 4 BCE and 2 CE two of the most popular numbers. (4 BCE is the year King Herod the Great died, so if you are trying to fit Jesus' birth before Herod's death, it has to be 4 BCE)
