Do we have any indication of what early peasant music sounded like?

by Laid_Low_Ludlow

I've seen posted around reddit a few different recordings of what ancient music sounded like from various regions, using simplified musical notation. Is this representational of commonly accessable music or is it more formal?

I have noticed that aristocratic music in more recent history has some tendency to be slower, which seems in common with much of the recorded attempts to recreate these ancient tunes. If we have any indication of what folk music at these times sounded, would it also have a slower tempo, or would it have been more lively?

Could you provide some examples of the recordings you heard, and narrow your question to a specific time period and place?
