Fun fact: the stereotype of Welshman fucking sheep comes from the Middle Ages.
The Welsh leaving around the border with England would sneak over to England and try to steal their sheep, the problem with this was that this was punishable by death. Bestiality, however, was not punishable by death (though it was still a crime), and so they Welshmen would say they wanted to fuck the sheep and not steal them.
How accurate is this claim?
Well the claim that in England bestiality was not punishable by death in the Middle Ages is certainly inaccurate. It was classed as Buggery or Sodomy; "carnal knowledge against the ordinance of the creator, and order of nature, by mankind with mankind, or with brute beast, or by womankind with brute beast." In English law recorded in 1290 the punishment was being burnt to death. The law was amended several times changing from a religious offence to a secular one but continued to attract the death sentence until 1861 when it was reduced to life imprisonment.
