as Jared Diamond's thesis in "Guns Germs and Steel" proclaims.... Europe, particularly, the West domination over places like Sub-Saharian Africa, The Americas etc. Of course, Diamond is a controversial scholar, and his thesis is widely debated, but would you still think Geographical Determinism is the best argument for why the West won.
What about the idea that there was something "unique" in the make up of Western culture and thought that might of played a role. (Of course this is also a very controversial stance)
was it just pure luck?
You might be interested in the comments to the recent(ish) question, Why is Environmental Determinism wrong?, or this less recent one, After glancing through all the Jared Diamond rebuttals on this sub's FAQ, it seems as though geographical determinism is largely discredited. But I don't understand how that can be the case, what else is there?. /u/ReedStilt, /u/ohsideSHOWbob, and others address the view on geographic/environmental determinism in the historical community.
