How different were East Asian/European reactions between the discovery of the other side of the old world, and the discovery of the new world. Did the world become "used to" discovery in the intervening 1500 years?

I don't think East Asia really cared about any discoveries other than the tons of Gold the Spanish found in the New Continent. They shipped a large part of it to the Ming Dynasty to trade for silk, porcelain, etc and the Ming Dynasty was all too happy to swallow up all this silver that seemingly appearted from thin air. But this then led to massive inflation for the Ming after the hording of silver so the government decided to "Seal the Sea" so merchants weren't allowed to leave with few places available for trade.
