Why did the US civil war end up creating a stronger nation while others like the Arab spring movements (a modern example) seem to leave countries weaker and less well off; what was so different about the US civil war?

I think it should be noted that the US Civil War was not a civil war in the sense you compare it to - attempt at toppling the government, but was actually an attempted revolution - breaking away from the existing government. The federal government in DC was never disrupted.
