Were they generally returned to their home countries or did many of them emigrate to the UK, US, France, etc? What was the process of their rehabilitation and possible reparations?

To summarize, the Allies did their best to return displaced persons to their country of origin. However, these people were frequently returning to a home that was either destroyed or possessed by someone else. From what we can tell, very few people had their homes or belongings returned to them after being freed, often for the simple reason that Germany had sold them to finance the war.
