Is there any credence to the theory that the Maltese archipelago was systematically thoroughly depopulated for lengthy periods throughout history? Furthermore, how is this reflected in contemporary demographics?
I haven't heard of this theory. Where is it coming from? Which centuries are Malta and Gozo supposed to be uninhabited? I'm by no means an expert on Maltese history, but they seem to be well-represented throughout recorded history.
