I understand that most of the works are in German. Are there any good ones in English that I can check out?
My library is The Teutonic Order: the military history by William Urban (very excellent)
The Monks of War by Desmond Seward (covers several Orders and crusades)
The Northern Crusades by Eric Christiansen
All of these are cheap on amazon, there's more books out there but I haven't got them yet so can't judge them
I'd like to piggy-back on your question and ask if anyone knows what editions of the Livonian rhymed chronicle are available, and which languages it has bee translated too. I happen to have a great interest in vernacular medieval chronicles.

If you have the time, you should check out the BBC 4 podcast [In Our Time] (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0832rmz), hosted by Melvyn Bragg. The podcast provides both the breadth and depth required of someone starting out researching the Teutonic order, their society and military campaigns. Melvyn leads a discussion between three prominent academics of the era to explore, contextualise and approach the Order through a transnational perspective.
Attached in the link is a list of further reading recommended by the three academics in question. Featuring heavily in the reading list is William Urban, one of the leading experts on the matter in the US, who has done much work to uncover the Livonian experiences of the conflict.
Thanks for everything everyone! Being of German and Polish heritage, these guys are of extreme interest to me. I'll check everything out ASAP
