There's a recording of a phone call between Dwight Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis on the best course of action. So, how big of a role in total did Eisenhower play in regards to Kennedy's decisions during this event? Were there any meetings or other conversations?

Were there any other recordings? Did the two meet? Here's the recording in question.

As a followup, why would President Kennedy refer to Eisenhower as General instead of President? Did Eisenhower prefer the title of General to President, was Kennedy doing it as a former military man himself, did other Presidents/politicians refer to him as General instead of President? Is/Was there any protocol for that sort of thing?
