Is this a valid claim? If not, are there any other interpretations that would be reasonable, for example 'World of Religious Strife' or 'World of technology'?
In what context have you encountered the term? "The Mediterranean World" comes from the historian Fernand Braudel and his book The Mediterranean and the Mediterranean World in the Age of Philip II, originally published in French in 1949. He used the term to refer to the social, cultural, and economic similarities of the various societies living on the shores of the Mediterranean during the sixteenth century, not to claim that the Mediterranean was in some way the center of the world.
