Hello historians, I have a question that I'm having a really hard time grasping. My plan was always too end up in law school, but I find myself straying away from that goal. I graduate this semester, and I'm not exactly sure what to do after that. My adviser recommended going to graduate school, but I know that road means I'd have to continue onto some type of doctorate degree. I also know it is extremely hard to find a well paying tenure job in academia, as most of my professors say this. I would love to work in higher level academia, and my school offers a very thorough graduate program in history. How applicable is going down this route? Should I just hit the pavement and find somewhere in cooperate America? Any advice generated from this post would be much welcomed, and thanks ahead of time!
I got my BA in History last May and am starting graduate school this August. You could look into the different aspects of graduate programs. For example, my program is Public History. If you wanted to look into that you could do historic preservation, museum studies.
I'd meet with someone from the graduate program and discuss your options. Someone in that field may be able to answer questions you have and they'll have first hand experience.
Get a Master's in Library Science,(MSLS)
get a teaching credential, (you choose the level)
stay the course in law.
But if you want a job that pays really well and is easy to land, go back to CC and get a nursing credential.
