The books I read in history class were often long, dense and uninteresting -- more suited for scholars, etc. This has turned me off to a lot of history.
Does anyone have some suggestions for books that would be fun to read and also historically educational?
I was originally going to only ask this question about U.S. history (as of recent events -- I thought I would re-educate myself), but screw it, any world history is awesome.
Thanks in advance!
I would recommend At Home: A Short History of Private Life by Bill Bryson. It's really a collection of micro histories about the everyday things we find in our homes, and what events led to us living the way we do today. It touches on a variety of time periods across the globe, and is quite fun to read. It definitely will stoke your curiosity for history. Since it's primarily focused on how people have lived at different times through history, is a bit easier to relate to than say a political or military history.
