In the year 767, What areas would likely have the most equitable treatment of women?

Although the year is arbitrary, I just wanted to ask something to go along with the week's theme, in a historical period that I find interesting. So, as the name implies, where would a woman likely find the most rights, or if various areas were equal, what would you get or not get? Edit: Worldwide, if that's possible compare. Otherwise, just the best you might know of in an area.

If we stick to Europe and consider the timeperiod rather that the actual (and by your own admission) arbitrary year, then the Viking regions of Scandinavia and Iceland could be an interesting example.

From the somewhat limited (and mostly second hand) information we have, The Pagan Viking societies were still very much patriarchal societies where women had clearly defined roles and a limited authority in many political and societal matters. On the other hand they had quite a bit of responsibility in the household and villages, especially when large numbers of able bodied men were away in the raiding periods.

they often managed the household finances and it was not uncommon that they kept the household and land holding if they were widowed.

the Icelandic Grágás laws also had clear rules stating the prohibition of harrassing women in public and stating punishments for rape and sexual harrasment.

In the various sagas, women mostly played minor parts, but the times they were introduced they were often given virtues like Strength, bravery and wisdom, things that were generally considered masculine traits.

So to sum up the women in viking societies were by no means equal to their male counterparts, but in many respects enjoyed a higher sense of autonomy. Most likely in part due to necessity of situations where men were raiding and therefore away from societal matters for longer periods of time.
