With religion, people hundreds of years back thought that they were the "chosen" people of god/gods, but were there any cultures that thought of any other intelligent species beyond what was human? If so, who and when was this idea thought?
Would gnomes, trolls, giants, elves, fairies, etc, etc qualify?
