Do these medals have any kind of significance?

My Mom and I were looking through some old boxes and found my Grandfather's WWII medals. Here are some pictures I took, there's three medals and I apologize for my poor photography skills and the angles (I don't know why they're at those angles on imgur, they weren't in my phone gallery). He was in the US Navy, though I don't know anything more specific than that (i.e. what ships he might have served on, where he was stationed, etc., sorry). Sorry if this isn't the right sub for this, and thanks in advance for any information about it.

The first pair of images are of the "Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal." This medal was given to all members of the US armed forces who served in the Asia-Pacific theater during the war.

The second pair of images are of the "World War II Victory Medal." It was granted to all members of the US armed forces who served during the World War II and the very immediate aftermath.

The 5th through 8th images are of the "American Campaign Medal." It was granted to all members of the US armed forces who in served what was called the "American theater" - a chunk of the world between certain latitudes drawn north to south through the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, being closest to North and South America.

What you've got there are the service medals that basically tell you geographically where your grandfather served during the war. Nice find!

Hello there! As your question is related to looking for identification/information regarding military personnel, our Guide on Military Identification may be of use to you. It provides a number of different resources, including how to request service records from a number of national agencies around the world, as well as graphical aids to assist in deciphering rank, unit, and other forms of badges or insignia. While the users here may still be able to lend you more assistance, hopefully this will provide a good place to start!
