In most screen versions of Great Expectations Pip starts speaking with received pronoceation to pass as a gentleman. Is that at all period accurate for the 1820s?

RP as we know it was first used as the accent in a pronunciation guide of English (thus being used "officially") in the 20th century. However it's very likely that the accent or similar ones were used by the upper class in at least parts of England before that.
