My grandfather was a Marine during WWII. He died when I was 2, and didn't share any stories about his time with any family members. My dad told me that my grandfather was in the Pacific, but that is about all that I know. I think he possibly drove one of the Marine amphibious vehicles.
I have his U.S. Marine Corps Identification Card with his name, hair color, eye color, weight, birth date, and his picture with what I believe was his service number beneath.
If someone can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, we've collected some information here that can help you out https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/wiki/militaryrecords. Once you know his unit and years deployed, you could post questions here to see if anyone has more info on what they did.
You could also ask for suggestions in /r/genealogy - those are the family history researchers, so hunting down military records should be pretty familiar to them
