In theory, If I were a Historian in the early 19th Century, what major misconceptions (if any) would I have about ancient and general world history?
It should be noted that many of the common historical misconceptions that still exist to this day in the popular mainstream actually were products of the 19th century.
(Off the top of my head) From Ottoman Decline, to the East vs West (or, more explicitly, the Islam vs Christianity) struggle narrative, to the Dark Ages narrative, to works about the decline of the Roman Empire, to the separation of "Rome" and "Byzantium", to the Flat Earth Myth (that is, the myth that most people still believed that the Earth was flat during the middle ages and renaissance), to the Galileo Myth (or, more broadly, the "Conflict Thesis"). These were all either created, largely expanded upon, and/or made popular to the mainstream during the 19th century.
