I had once seen a map that showed Native American trade routes before European Contact. I was wondering, how extensive were they? Could goods say from the Mississippi area arrive in the New England area? Thanks historians!
Hey there. This doesn't completely answer your question, but I asked something similar a few months back here and got some answers that are pertinent to your question. Hope it helps.
I can only really speak to the pacific northwest. My people the kwakiutl would go as far as i know as as south as Washington. And they would go at least as far as prince George. I know that some nuuchanulth (another tribe) say they used to go as far as mexico. As well we also used a trade language called chinook. It was used up and down the coast, and really helped when europeans showed up. We had things called grease trails.a lot of them were covered up by highways. They were called grease trails cause they traded ooligan oil to people that didnt have ooligan oil grease for things that we didnt have.
