I've heard it said that The Story of Civilization by Will and Ariel Durant has not aged well. How true is this and what precisely is wrong?

You asked a very similar question a couple weeks ago and I tried to give my best answer based on my impression and what has changed in the scholarship since the books have been published. I don't want to discourage other answers from people who have read the Story of Civilization but having seen this come up from time to time I simply don't think many people on the sub have read it. It might be more useful to pick a particular book or topic or claim made in the books that you're interested in and pose that to the sub.

Or for a given field you're interested in to look at the historiography of that field in the time period since the books was published. In the examples that I gave, even if we assume the Durants were posing the best possible case for the field at the time (and I don't think they were given that they were non specialists) there's barely a field of history that has not moved on significantly or even drastically in ~75 years.
