Hello,
Throughout this semester, my professor is expecting students to select a topic to research, study, and analyze. The class focuses on Pre-Columbian period through the end of the Civil War (1865). Topics could include subjects such as immigration, sex and relationships, incarceration, popular culture, partisanship in American politics, the increased role of the federal government, terrorism, class divisions, education, etc.) I would like to research a topic that differs from my classmates. Based on a survey it seemed like everybody was choosing to research the Salem Witch trials, Civil War, and Slavery. I know these topics are very broad but I would like one that not many people would know about. Any suggestions?
How about something about non-British colonies in North America and how they have left their impact? New France, New Netherland, New Sweden- everyone considers our British heritage but forgets we were a nation of immigrants before America was even an idea.
What kind of class is this for? We presume history, but is it just early United States History?
How about the acquisition of new territory through the westward expansion, purchases of land and the numerous territorial wars? Or maybe you could do something on the culture around the Wild West, or possibly the Gold Rush.
