I think it was banned in 16th century by ebu suud effendi the sheikhulislam (minister of religious affairs) of suleiman the magnificent.The reason of ban was creative destruction which is the same reason of why rulers throughout the history banned certain technologies it can take certain people's jobs and disturb the public order.In this case it was the scribes whose jobs are in danger.
