Hi guys! So, my friend was travelling around Europe and went to the Czech Republic, more specifically The Museum of Medieval Torture and he sent me a picture of this (http://imgur.com/VoLH4DL). And I was wondering what that drawing is about, whats its background history, if it has any meaning or has a cultural reference to something. I'd like any kind of information you guys could give about that drawing. I also hope I'm in the right subreddit, if not, sorry about that :I
My first thought was perhaps Krampus, since Prague is not too far removed from Alpine regions. That being said, there is not really enough information to go on here. Just because it's in a museum in Prague doesn't mean the sword is from Bohemia. It doesn't even mean it's a real sword from the period. Hell, it might not even be a real sword (but only a replica). You just cannot tell.
Unfortunately, so-called "torture museums" in Europe are more tourist traps than real museums. I went into one in Nuremberg one time and saw an Iron Maiden passed off as a real artifact. I would be surprised if the one in Prague were any different.
